The Engine Shed is now closed. We have left these original pages of the website as a record of our work.
The Engine Shed is a social enterprise that provides training for young people with learning disabilities in a real life work environment and helps them move into mainstream paid employment.
The Engine Shed was set up in 1989 as an innovative training project, founded on the idea that work is an important way for people with learning disabilities to become as independent as possible and integrated into the wider social world. Over the years what started as a training project has evolved into a thriving social business; it is now something of an Edinburgh institution, loved by locals and visitors alike for its great food and unique atmosphere.
The Engine Shed is run by Garvald Community Enterprises Ltd, a charitable company based in Edinburgh.
